STAGE 4 - Wells-Next-The-Sea to Cley: Distance 11.14 miles

4a. stage 1bProceed 1 mile down the concrete broadwalk towards Wells. At the end of the broadwalk bear left round the Harbour Master's Office/Maritime Museum (TF 915 438) and follow the edge of the quay to the main road. ⚠ Beware of traffic and pedestrian congestion.
4b. Turn left and continue straight on for 300 metres to the chandlery at the end of the quay.
4c. stage 1d(TF 918 437) signed as 'East Quay Only'.
4d. stage 1bAt the next junction (TF 922 437) fork left through the yard area.
4e. stage 1bAfter 100 metres at the Wells Harbour Commissioner's boat storage compound, keep left on to Acorn Way marked path.
4f. stage 1fDo not deviate from this path until you reach the end of the raised bank in 0.5 miles (TF 930 436). Here, bear left down the bank into a small copse and continue on the path for about 1.75 miles.
4g. stage 1bstage 1bAt the tarmac track (TF 956 438) bear right and after just 25 metres take the grass path to the right and continue for 0.5 miles to Stiffkey car park.
4h. stage 1hAt Stiffkey car park (TF 964 439) (access point) go straight on and continue for 1.5 miles along the Coastal Path signed "Morston 23/4 miles'.
4i. At Stiffkey Fen follow the path onto and across the raised bank (passing the lake on the right hand side). After 300 metres follow the path to the left and off the bank.
4j. stage 1jaAfter a further 200 metres, at the boat landing area (TF 990 442), follow the path to the right.
4k. stage 1kAfter about 0.4 miles at the creek, if the tide is out, make your way straight on keeping to the track close to the fence (not the acorn marked path). If the tide is in go through the gate and beyond the fence. Negotiate the path to the other side of the creek.
4l. On the other side of the creek keep straight onto the rough road (ignoring the 'acorn' and path to the left), keeping as close as possible to the fence on your right hand side. Continue for 0.6 miles.
4m. Ignore paths to the left and follow the gravel lane to the right (keep on the lane below the raised footpath on the bank), past the "Blue Jacket" on the right and turn left into the car parks and head towards the observation building (keeping on the gravel road). ⚠ Beware of traffic.
4n. Continue to and past the observation post building, passing between the building and the picnic tables and follow the 'acorn' marked Coastal Path.
4o. stage 1oContinue on the Coastal Path for 1.5 miles towards Blakeney church visible in the distance.
4p. stage 1pstage 1pAt the steps ignore the bridleway and continue on the acorn marked Coastal Path.
4q. stage 1qAt the junction of the paths by a private house garden, continue on the acorn marked Coastal Path.
4r. stage 1rOn arrival at Blackeney bear right around the wall.
4s. stage 1bFollow the path to the village sign and turn left on to the road.
4t. stage 1tKeep to the left of the white barriers.
4u. stage 1bAt the end of the barriers rejoin the road and continue past the Manor Hotel (TG 028 443). 25 metres after the hotel, as the road bears sharp right, go straight through a gate on to the National Trust Permissive Path. Follow the obvious path for 300 metres. ⚠ Beware of traffic and pedestrial congestion. Keep to the foot path/pavement.
4v. stage 1bstage 1bAt the fence go through the open gate and bear right 15 metres along an obvious path to another gate (please close the gate behind you).
4w. Go throught the gate and follow the obvious path up through the wooded area for 30 metres.
4x. stage 1wstage 1wstage 1wAt the end of the path go through the gate and turn left (please close the gate behind you). Follow the fence on the left. On arrival at the cafe turn right (as per the second photo) and follow the road for 400 metres to the A149.
4y. cycleAt the A149 turn left and continue for 0.5 miles to Cley (TG 041 438). ⚠ HIGH RISK POINT - Keep to the path where possible
4z. stage 1wstage 1wcycleAt the end of the houses on the left hand side of the road coming out of Cley and immediately after the stone bench, turn left down the bank through the gate in the hedge and follow the obvious path (0.85 mile to the changeover).
4aa stage 1wAfter 40 metres bear right at the acorn sign and follow the raised bank for 0.8 miles to the changeover at the beach car park. DO NOT COME OF THE BANK TO RUN ON THE ROAD.
