Hi Visibility Garments
The race Safety Rules (Click here) require hi-visibility/reflective garments to be worn during the event. It is important that all hi-visibility garments worn by runners, marshals, supporters and cycle escorts have strong reflective properties and are in good repair. Flimsy vests made up of (so-called) reflective mesh do not do the job and are unacceptable. Referees will be asked to pay particular to this important safety matter.
Timekeeping
Rules
Each team must nominate a Principal Timekeeper in the Preliminary Team Declaration. She/he will be responsible for:
a. Starting timers (watches) at the team’s start.
b. Recording the time of each of the team’s stage changes and finish on the official Results Sheet which is issued by the race director at registration.
c. Making sure that any Assistant Timekeepers understand what they have to do.
Responsibilities:
The time at each stage change must be recorded on the team’s Result Sheet as soon as the stage is completed. It must be the team’s cumulative time from the start - (not just the time for that stage and not in time-of-day format).
The times must be recorded in hrs., mins., secs. The 1/100 sec. should be rounded up to the next whole second and not recorded. e.g 4hr. 25min. 38.12 sec. record as 4 : 25 : 39
Times taken by stage runners must not be relied upon to decide a team’s stage time.
The top copy of the Result Sheet complete with the times for the first 10 stages must be handed in to a race official at the Bungay changeover (Stage 10/11), the second copy will be collected at Stowbridge (Stage 16/17) in the event of a team being unlikely to make the 28 hour qualifying time to complete the course or being unlikely to reach the finish by 10:15am. Please DO NOT leave Bungay without handing in your timesheet. The remaining copy is to be handed in at the finish.
In the event of an irresolvable disagreement or uncertainty over times the chief timekeeper shall decide on the official times.

Timekeepers are requested to wear a his-vis vest with the name 'Timekeeper' on it so that they are easily identified at the Finish and when Results Sheets are collected at other places during the race.
The integrity of your team’s result relies on accurate timing at each stage.
RNR will arrange for official race timekeepers to time teams through some stage changes. This will be in a spirit of cooperation to help a team with any difficulty they encounter in timing. The choice of which team will be checked and where will be made without prejudice.
While RNR does allow for a generous tolerance in teams’ timing it should be possible to achieve a minimum accuracy of 3secs at each stage. If a stage time is shown to be outside the accepted tolerance it could be that such a time would not be accepted.
The results computer programme calculates each runner’s stage time from the cumulative times.
Possible reasons for dodgy times:
Timekeeper not sure what they have to do.
Timekeeper not having a clear sight of the team’s runners at the changeover point.
Timekeeper not having timer to hand.
Timekeeper not having recording sheet to hand.
Other useful matters.
Start at least 2 timers at the start in case one malfunctions or is stopped accidentally.
Check well beforehand how the timers work e.g. which button does what and whether there is a lock button which prevents accidental operation. (It must be unlocked before further use). Check to ensure batteries are fully charged and trial use all timers before the race.
Use proper timers rather than wrist watches or mobile ‘phone timers. They are more convenient and easier to read.
Multi-timers are best. They will retain all
the times taken and these can be checked through while the race is in progress.
For those wishing to purchase a timer, a suitable device can be found
HERE (as recommended by Steve Carrott - The chief race timekeeper)
After your timer has run for 10 hrs. it will most likely run over to 0 : 00 : 00.00. Don’t panic and don’t think it’s wrong and stop it! Just add the 10 hrs to what it says and then another 10 after 20hrs
Course Marking.
Although route finding is a team responsibility, the course will be marked where necessary by the use of A5 size red signs with a black arrow, on the off-road sections and with A5 yellow signs on the road stages. The letters RNR will appear at the top of the arrow. If the RNR is not at the top, the arrow will not be pointing in the correct direction suggesting that the sign has been tampered with. Those running off-road stages are strongly advised to familiarise themselves with their route prior to the race.
Vehicle Warning Sign & Team Number.
Each team will be given a team number (tyvek) and a magnetic 'Slow moving vehicle' sign, to be displayed on the team vehicle, at registration. The magnetic vehicle sign is costly and will be collected at Stowbridge (Stage 17). In the event of loss the cost of replacement will be debited to the team concerned
